Common Exemptions Available To Help Homeowners

There are three popular exemptions that many homeowners in Chicagoland and Cook County may be eligible to claim: the homeowner exemption, the senior citizen exemption and the senior freeze exemption.

The homeowner exemption is available to individuals who own a property (or lease it and are responsible for property tax payments), as long as the property is used as a principal residence.
The senior citizen exemption is available to homeowners over the age of 65. Individuals eligible for the senior citizen exemption automatically qualify for the homeowner exemption.
The senior freeze exemption can be used to freeze the assessment value of a property. Individuals must be over the age of 65, have a household income under $55,000, and meet other requirements in order to qualify for this exemption.

There are additional exemptions — including ones for veterans and disabled homeowners — that individuals may qualify for. When you meet with us, we will determine every exemption you may be entitled to take.
